A professional HVAC technician with 7+ years in the field who personally tests and installs the equipment reviewed here. Every recommendation on Kubalix comes from hands-on field experience โ not guesswork.
Why I built Kubalix
I work on heating and cooling systems for a living. Day to day, I install and service mini-splits, thermostats, furnaces, and air-quality equipment in real homes โ so I see firsthand which products hold up and which ones cause callbacks.
That's exactly why I started Kubalix. Most HVAC "best of" lists online are written by people who have never touched the equipment โ thin articles built to rank on Google, not to actually help you. I wanted a site where the recommendations come from someone who has wired the units, charged the lines, and dealt with the warranty claims. If I wouldn't put it in my own home or a customer's, it doesn't get recommended here.
My background
My approach blends hands-on field work with an engineering mindset:
- 7+ years as a professional HVAC technician โ I install, troubleshoot, and maintain heating, cooling, and ventilation systems in the field.
- B.S. Electrical Engineering
- M.S. Engineering Management
- EPA 608 Universal Certified
That electrical-engineering background matters more than you'd think in HVAC โ modern systems are as much about wiring, controls, and efficiency as they are about refrigerant. It's why I can explain why a unit performs the way it does, not just repeat a spec sheet.
How I make recommendations
- Field-tested first. Wherever possible, recommendations come from equipment I've actually installed or serviced โ not marketing copy.
- Specs that matter, explained. SEER2, BTUs, MERV, static pressure โ I translate the numbers into what they mean for your comfort and your bill.
- Honest pros and cons. No product is perfect. I tell you who each one is right for, and who should skip it.
- Safety first. When a job genuinely needs a licensed pro (refrigerant, gas, high-voltage), I'll say so plainly instead of pretending everything is DIY.
How the site stays free
Kubalix is reader-supported. When you buy through links on the site, I may earn a small affiliate commission โ at no extra cost to you. This never changes what I recommend; I only point you to products I'd genuinely stand behind on a job. See the full affiliate disclosure for details.
